Making Shutters

This is actually a super easy project. I built mine for decorative purposes only, they cannot be opened or closed. They are screwed to the wall. I do have to admit though, that for such and easy and cheap project, its well worth doing it, it adds so much beauty to the front of my house. The size of the shutter will depend on the size of your windows. For my project of four shutters, I needed the following:

8 pre treated round edged 2X1 (cut to the length of your window) I like the round edged ones because it gives it more of a finished look.
8 pre treated round edged 2X1, to fit across the shutters to keep the longer wood pieces together. You can ask you local hardware store clerk to cut these out of the same 2X1 you are already using for the longer sides of the shutters, just measure the widths of the shutter.
32 screws

Potted Plant Thingy!

What you need:

1 rebar, cut to size. Mine was 6 feet
6 terra cotta pots with wholes on the bottom.
    - One large size
    - Two next size down
    - Two more even smaller
    - One smallest pot
6 flower plants or herbs

I had originally gone to Home Depot to get the rebar, but they would not cut it to the size that I wanted, so I ended up going to McLendon Hardware where they were happy to cut it to any size I wished.

Dig a small, but deep whole about a foot deep. The rebar needs to be stable if you live in a windy city. Put the rebar in and cover with dirt, make sure it is very stable. Put the biggest pot thru the rebar with the bottom hole first and thred it all the way to the bottom and angle it sideways slightly. Then add the next smallest size pot the same way with the bottom hole first and angle it the opposite direction and the pot should stay there just like that, keep going like that with all the pots and voila, all done.
Easy as that, then just will with dirt and the plants and water plenty.

I have had so many people ask me about it and try to figure it out and have received countless comments on how beautiful it looks.

This is from Pinterest, to be honest I don't remember who its from exactly, but there are ton of them on there, so I give credit to you all!!!
